ADEN, Jan. 03 (YPA) – The assassination of the commander of “Al-Fayrouz” checkpoint at the northern entrance of the city of Aden sparked wide reactions among activists on Wednesday.
According to local sources, a security patrol belonging to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions assassinated the commander of the Al-Fayrouz checkpoint, nicknamed Al-Asfour.
The sources confirmed that the patrol tried to rob the victim of his weapon while he was returning from his workplace at the checkpoint. Still, the commander of the point, who was known to the patrol refused to hand over his weapon, prompting the patrol members to shoot him dead immediately.
The patrol continued its way indifferent, leaving the victim bloodied in the middle of the road, the sources said.
The sources pointed out that the pro-STC factions are on alert in conjunction with the meeting of STC supporters in the city of Aden.
Activists considered that the incident indicates the level of readiness of the STC militia to kill in light of the state of lawlessness and impunity prevailing in the Yemeni areas, which are under the control of the Saudi-led coalition.
