Minister in pro-coalition government assassinated by poison in Abu Dhabi

ADEN, Dec. 12 (YPA) – A source close to the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition revealed on Tuesday that the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology in the government, Dr. Najib Al-Awej, was assassinated in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

According to the source, the UAE summoned Dr. Al-Awej a few days ago to find out the reasons for his objection to some provisions of the telecommunications deal agreement between Yemen and Abu Dhabi.

The source confirmed that Al-Awej was refusing to pass a deal for the benefit of a company affiliated with the Emirati intelligence service in the manner that the UAE wanted, and he tried to make amendments to the text of the agreement in favor of Yemen, which did not please the UAE.

The source indicated that Al-Awej did not die of a sudden heart attack, according to what was reported by the pro-Riyadh “Saba Agency” version, but was killed by poisoning.

Dr. Al-Awej was not suffering from any illness and was living his life normally, pointing out that he had more than one meeting yesterday, and while he was on his way to the hotel, he suddenly collapsed and was subsequently rushed to the hospital, the source explained.

The source reiterated his confirmation that Dr. Al-Awj was subjected to an assassination by poisoning him in order to get rid of him and replace him with another minister loyal to the UAE who would implement its directives without objection.
