ADEN, Dec. 01 (YPA) – Aden Airport administration, loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, has imposed new extra fees on those arriving at the airport, which were met with condemnation and discontent among returnees from several countries around the world.
The Aden Airport’s administration, appointed by the coalition and loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), issued new bonds for the worker’s fee and the trolley for transporting passengers’ luggage worth 1,500 Yemeni riyals (equivalent to one US dollar according to exchange rates in Aden).
New levies at the airport caused discontent among travelers, as this is the first time such a situation has occurred globally. The airport administration argued that the costs of transport trolleys benefit unpaid workers.
It is worth noting that most of the revenues of revenue institutions in Aden and some southern regions are primarily used by pro-STC leaders without depositing them in the Central Bank of Aden, which led to an economic collapse after the pro-coalition government flooded the market with approximately 5 trillion and 320 billion Yemeni riyals of printed currency without a cash cover during the period between 2016 and 2021.
