Magnitude 5.1 earthquake shakes western Iran

TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (YPA) – An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the city of Murmuri in Abdanan, Ilam province, western Iran.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institution of the University of Tehran, the epicenter was about 29 km (18 miles) southeast of Abdanan.

The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and moderate shaking was probably felt near the epicenter, with light shaking likely felt in other parts of western Iran and eastern Iraq.

There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
