ABYAN, Nov. 04(YPA) – The UAE-backed factions on Saturday launched a campaign of raids on a number of homes and arrested a number of Islah loyalists in the coastal city of Shuqra in Abyan province, southern Yemen, local sources said.
According to the sources, UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias carried out a campaign of raids on the homes of Islah loyalists in the coastal city of Shuqra in search of what they called wanted on charges of espionage .
They arrested a number of Islah loyalists and put them in one of their prisons in the city, the sources explained,
The arrests of pro-Islah elements came amid tensions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE in Aden, Lahj, and Hadramout provinces.
It is noteworthy that the coastal city of Shuqra became a major stronghold for the leadership of the Islah forces after being expelled by the STC factions in Aden during the August 2019 confrontations.
