Meteorology expects rains, strong winds to hit several provinces in next 24 hours

SANAA, Aug 18 (YPA) – The National Meteorology Center expected on Friday that rains of varying intensity, accompanied by thunderstorms in a number of provinces, strong winds around the Yemeni coasts and hot to very hot weather in the coastal areas and deserts during the next 24 hours.

In its weather forecast, the center predicted rains of varying intensity accompanied by hail, are likely to hit parts of the governorates of Shabwa, Abyan, Bayda, Lahj, Dhalea, Taiz, Ibb, Raymah, Dhamar, Sanaa, Amran, Mahweet, Hajjah and Saada.

Scattered rains, accompanied by thunderstorms, are also expected in parts of the governorates of Mahra, Hadramout, South Marib, West of Jawf, Tihama Plain and the western coasts, the center added.

According to the center, hot to very hot weather is expected during the day in the deserts and interior plateaus, with maximum temperatures ranging between 40-45 degrees Celsius, hot and high humidity in coastal areas, plains and the Socotra archipelago, with maximum temperatures ranging between 33-40 degrees Celsius.

It also expected that strong to very strong winds around the Socotra archipelago, ranging in speed between 30-40 knots, and active to strong winds around parts of the eastern and southern coasts,  and the entrance to Bab al-Mandeb, ranging in speed between 15-30 knots, causing turbulences over the sea.

The center called on citizens not to be in valleys and torrent passages in areas where rain is expected, to take shelter from thunderstorms, and not to use mobile phones.

It warned motorists on mountain roads of low horizontal visibility during rain, and of crossing bridges and underground tunnels during the flow of torrents.
