SANAA, Aug. 17 (YPA) – Minister of Electricity in the Sana’a government, Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, demanded on Wednesday the UN to resume work on the stalled electricity and energy projects that were underway before the war.
This came during a meeting with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations – Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program, Abdallah Al Dardari, in Sanaa.
During the meeting, Al-Bukhaiti stressed the need to restore the Green Fund point that was withdrawn and resulted in depriving the northern provinces of projects funded by the Fund, especially with regard to supporting and encouraging partnership with the private sector, and developing the investment environment.
The minister pointed to the need for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)’s office to commit to implementing renewable energy projects in partnership with the ministry.
He urged the United Nations to rehabilitate the electricity and energy sector in Yemen, as it serves all the Yemeni people.
For his part, Al Dardari stressed his keenness to support the energy sector in Yemen within integrated programs leading to developing and rehabilitating electricity networks in Yemen by absorbing the financial support provided by donors.
