HODEIDA, July. 31 (YPA) – The United Nations announced on Monday that it had completed the first stage after unloading a third of the oil in the “Safer” tank to the alternative tanker “Yemen”, in the first six days since the start of its operation.
“So far, more than 360,000 barrels have been pumped from the Safer tanker to the alternative tanker (Yemen),” Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), said on Twitter.
Steiner added that the pumps are continuing to work, and the work teams have completed unloading two central tanks to the replacement tanker, which represents a third of the amount in the Safer tank, which is estimated at 1.15 million barrels of crude oil.
Recently, the United Nations has started the process of unloading oil from the dilapidated Safer oil reservoir off the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea, to a new ship named (Yemen), in a process expected to take 19 days, in order to avoid humanitarian and environmental disasters.
