US promises Niger’s President to restore democratic rule

WORLD, July 29 (YPA) – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on  Saturday that Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum can count on the unwavering support of the United States, days after a coup by Niger’s presidential guard.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller claimed in a statement that Blinken stressed during a phone call with Bazoum, the second in days, that “the United States will continue to work to ensure the full restoration of constitutional order and democratic governance in Niger.”

Blinken also praised Bazoum’s “role in enhancing security not only in Niger but in the wider West African region.”
