STC factions block streets, carry out campaign of mass arrests in Aden

ADEN, July 18 (YPA) -The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s  factions blocked a number of streets to prevent thousands of protesters from reaching the in the Khormaksar Parade Square in downtown  of Aden to denounce the economic collapse.

Local sources in the city confirmed that the STC elements deployed heavily on-board dozens of military vehicles in the streets of the city during the past hours on Monday.

The sources indicated that the STC elements impeded the arrival of angry demonstrators to the Khormaksar Parade Square to protest against  the economic and service collapse in the city and the rest of the Yemeni regions under the control of the Saudi-led  coalition.

According to the sources, the elements carried out a campaign of arrests against a number of young people participating in the protest against the collapse of the local currency and the deterioration of electricity service.

Political observers attributed the STC’s fear of escalating popular anger with calls for the establishment of a political bloc of the city’s people to manage their security, economic and service affairs away from all components and forces participating in the pro-coalition government.

The city of Aden has been witnessing angry popular protests for the fifth consecutive day,  demanding the departure of the coalition, accusing the latter of being behind the economic, service and security collapse to achieve  its agendas and ambitions in southern Yemen.
