Sanaa condemns coalition’s torture crimes against detainees in Yemen

SANAA, June 27 (YPA) – Ministry of Human Rights in Sanaa called for the prosecution of the leaders of the coalition and its tools, in violations and torture crimes committed against prisoners and detainees in Yemen.

The ministry said in a statement, in conjunction with the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, that this day, which is celebrated by the United Nations institutions, came at a time when the US-backed Saudi-Emirati coalition still practicing the most heinous types of torture and all inhuman practices prohibited by the international law against the Yemeni people, prisoners and detainees.

The statement noted that thousands of prisoners, detainees, and expatriates are still in the prisons run by the coalition in Marib, Aden, and the rest of the southern areas, where they are subjected to the most severe types of psychological and physical torture.

It affirmed that what the coalition and its tools are doing against prisoners is a flagrant violation of all international covenants, laws and human rights.

The ministry condemned the continued international silence toewards the crimes of the coalition nd its tools, calling for the formation of an independent and impartial international commission of inquiry to visit these prisons.
