Report: 80 militia members of STC killed and wounded in al-Qaeda attacks in Abyan and Shabwa provinces
OCCUPIED PROVINCES, June 24 (YPA) – Al-Qaeda organization has admitted of carrying out drone strikes in Abyan and Shabwa provinces.
The group claimed responsibility for blowing up three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Abyan province on Thursday, killing Jaber bin Abdul Qawi al-Faha al-Yafei and wounding 7 others in Mudiyah district in southern Yemen’s Abyan province.
The organization confirmed that it carried out drone attacks on the “Shabwa Defense” forces on Thursday in the Al-Musaina’a area of Al-Saeed district in Shabwa governorate, according to the journalist “Essem Al-Sabri” loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) .
The terrorist attacks left about 80 STC’s militants dead and wounded in Abyan and Shabwa governorates from the beginning of last January until June 21, including 22 dead and 31 wounded in Abyan, and 6 dead and 21 wounded in Shabwa, according to media outlets affiliated with the STC.
The group carried out 31 attacks, including 17 attacks with 18 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and 5 drone attacks in Shabwa, in addition to 5 operations through its armed elements in Abyan and Shabwa, during which they attacked STC’s checkpoints.
This comes after al-Qaeda obtained a large shipment of drones after carrying out an armed ambush that managed to seize a truck loaded with drones in the Badarat area, west of the Al-Wadea border crossing with Saudi Arabia, at the end of last December, which was on its way to Marib in coordination with leaders of the Islah Party to be transferred to an unknown destination.
