Pro-coalition gov’t appointment of Health Ministry Undersecretary sparks discontent

ADEN, June 10 (YPA) -The new appointment of assistant undersecretary in the Ministry of Health in the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition has sparked a wave of controversy among political and human rights activists in Aden.

According to informed sources in Aden, the Prime Minister of the pro-coalition government, Moeen Abdul-Malik Saeed, agreed to a proposal submitted by the Minister of Health, Qassim Baheih, to assign a young woman lacking scientific qualifications or experience to assume the position of assistant undersecretary in the Ministry of Health.

The sources added that the appointment sparked a wave of protest among health cadres, who considered the decision as illegal and not taking into account conditions required to assume leadership duties in state institutions.

“There are talks that the decision to appoint the girl as assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Health was issued based on personal relationships that are not linked to legal standards,” the sources said.

Meanwhile, activists on social media accused Moeen Abdul-Malik Saeed of ignoring the economic catastrophe that hit areas, which under the control of coalition, and being preoccupied with appointment decisions that make matters worse in those areas.

They added that the pro-coalition Minister of Health had previously violated the laws of the public service, by appointing a “broker” as director general of quarantine centers.
