HADRAMOUT, June 01 (YPA) – Hadramout has been living in a state of waiting for the outcome of preparations that are being made by Saudi-led coalition countries, which seek to impose their results on the largest governorate in Yemen preparing it for a new “geostrategic” reality.
While the Saudi capital hosts the political part of this movement, factions loyal to the coalition are doing their part on the ground to prepare the province for the military aspect.
The political and field events in Hadramput are described as a full-fledged conflict, but what is remarkable about Hadramout is the entry of new players on the conflict line, which explains that it is related to the size and gravity of the projects and plans that await preservation at all levels.
In this regard, Yemeni circles were surprised by a meeting between the Saudi ambassador, “Mohammed Al Jaber,” with the ambassadors of 22 European countries in Riyadh, but what is remarkable is the subject of the meeting, which the news said was “related to the future of Hadramout.”
By announcing this meeting, along with the Hadrami Components Conference it hosts, Saudi Arabia wanted to highlight the idea that the future of Hadramout governorate is a focal point in any future settlement.
Through this maneuver, Riyadh seeks to internationalize the idea that Hadramout should chart its own independent future during the supposed peace negotiations away from the idea of a unified Yemeni state that Riyadh and Abu Dhabi claim on every occasion to support.
The coalition countries have always supported the currents calling for the secession of the south as an option that they have been unable to achieve throughout the years of the war they launched on Yemen, but the emergence of this trend under auspices of the Saudis, confirms that the map that Riyadh hopes to impose on post-war Yemen goes beyond the idea of dividing Yemen into just two regions.
Returning to the meeting between the ambassadors of the European Union and the Saudi ambassador, who was said to have met later with the delegation of the Hadrami components hosted by Riyadh, this puts a big question mark on the reasons that prompted the Saudis to invite the European Union to participate in this game.
After the meeting between European ambassadors and the Hadrami delegation hosted by Riyadh, the European Union said it supported the “unity of the presidential leadership council” loyal to the coalition, but movements on the ground suggested otherwise.
The US and Western moves in Hadramout are in line with the World Bank’s report on Yemen’s post-peace economic future, which linked the peace process to “realistic decentralization that it said could help support its future growth.”
Linking the intertwined threads that Riyadh is working on today confirms that preparing the international and political arena for the idea of the Hadrami issue is in harmony with Saudi plans to turn the province into a battlefield on the ground during which it hopes to triumph over all those who oppose its future orientations that seek to devour the largest governorate in Yemen.
In this regard, news coming from Hadramout confirms Saudi Arabia’s failure to obtain guarantees from the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) not to advance militarily in the province.
Riyadh, in turn, seeks to secure Hadramout militarily by deploying the so-called “Dera al-Watan” Forces, which it seeks to replace the pro-Islah forces and the forces that the STC wants to deploy in the province.
The Saudis do not hide their insistence on ensuring the possession of the upper hand in the province for several reasons, the most important of which is that Hadramout has the largest border strip with the Kingdom, not to mention that it is the land of wealth, not to mention its strategy as a result of the extended coastlines it owns along the Arabian Sea.
