Oman’s Grand Mufti denounces his country’s decision to open its airspace to Israeli enemy planes

MUSCAT, Feb. 26 (YPA) – The Grand Mufti of Oman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Khalili, on Saturday denounced the decision of his country’s government to open the airspace of the Sultanate to Israeli occupation planes.

Al-Khalili, who is known for his strong support for the Palestinian cause, wrote in his Twitter account, denouncing: “We were surprised by a surprise that we had not imagined of the decision to open the airspace so that the Zionist entity could use it, and we never considered that.”

On Thursday, the Omani Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement: “Confirming the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman to put the basic provisions of the 1994 Chicago Treaty into practice before all 193 countries contracting with the International Civil Aviation Organization and in implementation of international and local requirements not to discriminate between civil aircraft in treatment, we affirm that The airspace of the Sultanate of Oman is open to all air carriers that meet the conditions for crossing Omani airspace.”

On the same day, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Sultanate of Oman had agreed to allow Israeli civilian flights to pass through its airspace.

Al-Khalili said in his tweet that he hoped that the steadfast position would continue rejecting any relationship with that entity from the Sultanate. He warned that this step would be the beginning of other steps.
