Kuwait accuses Saudi Arabia of exploiting its oil resources

SANAA,  June 27 (YPA) – Kuwaiti activists and researchers accused Saudi Arabia of seeking to seize control of Kuwaiti land and exploit its oil resources.

The accusation came after the statements of Saudi Oil Minister, Khalid al-Faleh about the neutral oil zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

“Talks are underway with Kuwait on the neutral zone in the hope of reaching an agreement in the future,” a Saudi newspaper quoted the Saudi oil minister as saying. “This statement was seen by Kuwaitis as a departure from what was agreed years ago to make the region neutral between the two countries.

The head of the Kuwait Center for Strategic Studies, Sami al-Farj, said that his country should give importance to these statements, calling on his country to go to the international judiciary to appeal the 1922 agreement In which Kuwait was ignored and under which the neutral zone was controlled.

On 2014, the region witnessed a state of tension between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and the fields of the neutral zone, the largest of which were Khafji and Al-Wafra fields, were closed, as well as all the efforts of the agreement to reopen the fields until now have failed.

In additional, the closure of Khafji and Al-Wafra fields has also caused a political and economic problem for both countries because of disagreement over the management of oil extraction.
