WORLD, Sept. 08 (YPA) – US President Joe Biden has extended the national emergency for foreign interference in US elections.
Biden addressed House Speaker Nancy Polisi asking her to “continue the national emergency” beginning on Sept. 12 regarding the possibility of foreign interference in or undermining public confidence in the US election.
The state of emergency regime has been in place since September 12, 2018, when it was imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump.
This decree gives a legal basis for imposing various sanctions against parties that the United States suspects of trying to influence the outcome and process of the US election or harm the electoral system.
On the basis of the decree, the United States imposed sanctions on several Russian personalities and entities after accusing them of alleged interference in the US election.
