Yemen is self-sufficient from potatoes seeds

SANAA, Sept. 07 (YPA) – The general company for the production of potato seeds confirmed the increase in its production of seeds and access to self-sufficiency in covering local needs .

The company explained that achieving self-sufficiency of potato seeds resulted in stopping the import of about a ton of seeds equivalent to two million dollars.

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Engineer Abdulmalik Al-Thour, during his chairmanship of a meeting of the board of Directors of the general company for the production of potato seeds on Wednesday, praised the qualitative leap achieved by the company in raising its productivity of potato seeds and contributing to food security .

He pointed out that the company is one of the agricultural institutions that has proven its ability to overcome the challenges that the country is going through due to aggression and blockade, and enable it to provide a successful model and reach self-sufficiency of potato seeds, pointing out that the company’s leadership and cadres will be honored in recognition of their efforts in raising productivity and developing the company’s activity .

The Minister of Agriculture also praised the company’s role in providing the agricultural sector with improved seeds, providing the market needs of the potato crop, and contributing to enhancing food security, stressing the keenness to address the difficulties facing the company, in order to enhance its role in alleviating the suffering of citizens.
