SOCOTRA, Aug. 31 (YPA) – UAE has sold expired relief aid to the people of the Yemeni island of Socotra, after it was damaged in its warehouses.
Local sources in Hadibo island said on Wednesday that the UAE took out expired food aid that was in the stores of the “Khalifa Foundation”, and sold it during the past two weeks to citizens in the center of Hadibo, the capital of the island.
According to sources, the Foundation took advantage of the citizens’ urgent need for food during the windy season, to be sold near the governorate building for needy families.
At the end of last June, the UAE transferred a shipment of relief aid that was about to end to the stores of the “Khalifa Foundation” without distributing it to poor families, to be sold through its tools after its expiration date.
Tribal sheikh in Socotra, Saad Al-Faraghi, had called in mid-June for a hunger uprising against the UAE and Saudi Arabia on the island due to their policy of starving the people with the aim of displacing them.
