WORLD, Aug. 18 (YPA) – Thousands of Ukrainian refugees received by Britons are at risk of homelessness due to the high cost of their maintenance amid the country’s worsening economic crisis, The Independent reported.
Some British families who have hosted Ukrainian refugees have asked the UK government to double their allocations from £350 ($420) per month to £700 ($840).
According to the National Statistics Service, about one in four Britons who have provided shelter to Ukrainian refugees plan to refuse to participate in the migrant reception program within six months, due to the country’s difficult economic situation.
More than 1,000 Ukrainian refugees in Britain have signed a mass letter demanding that their move to a permanent place of residence to be facilitated, so that they are not left on the street.
At the beginning of July, more than 1,000 Ukrainians found themselves homeless in the UK either because a number of locals refused to accept them at home, despite initial agreements, or because of “unfavorable conditions” to live.
