Al-Hamali calls on EU donors to re-provide food aid to Yemen

SANAA, July. 26 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation in Sanaa, Ibrahim Al-Hamali, called on the donors of the European Union and the Swedish Foreign Ministry to work on re-providing food aid to alleviate suffering of the Yemeni people.

This came in a virtual meeting via the Internet on Tuesday, with Director of Humanitarian Aid in the European Union, Michael Köhler, and Deputy Director of Humanitarian Affairs at the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Carl Skau, to discuss the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

“The reduction of food aid comes at a time when hunger and food insecurity are still high in Yemen, which is alarming and exacerbates human suffering in light of the worst disaster in the world that Yemen is facing as a result of the aggression and siege,” Al-Hamali said.

Al-Hamali also called on the European Union to reopen its offices in Sanaa to see closely the extent of the suffering experienced by the people of Yemen and to directly supervise the grants provided by them to Yemen, reiterating the council’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities for their presence in Sanaa.
