VIRGINIA, Feb. 02 (YPA) – Two campus safety officers have been killed in a shooting Tuesday on a college campus in Virginia, US media reported.
Virginia State Police said in a statement on Twitter that two security officers, one of them responsible for the safety of the Bridgewater College campus in Virginia, were shot and killed.
Security personnel from various agencies arrived on the college campus after reporting an active shooter, the statement added.
Virginia State Police added, they arrested the suspect, a 27-year-old named Alexander Wyatt Campbell, has a non-life threatening injury.
It was not clear whether the police had shot the suspect, but confirmed that he had been charged with murder.
Several students told The Washington Post that shots were heard near the school building on the college campus and had to take shelter for more than three hours.
“I have seen the situation at Bridgewater College,” Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin tweeted. The man is in police custody.
