Iran, Qatar discuss situation in Afghanistan

DOHA, Feb. 02 (YPA) – Iranian Special Representative for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi met  on Tuesday with his Qatari counterpart Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani in Doha.

The Iranian Embassy in Doha said Tuesday evening, in a new tweet on its official Twitter account, that Kazemi Qomi and Al-Qahtani met today in Doha and discussed ways of bilateral cooperation on the current situation in Afghanistan.

The meeting took place in the presence of Iran’s ambassador to Qatar, Hamid Reza Dehgani, without giving more details.

On 7 September 2021, the Taliban announced the formation of an interim government in Afghanistan, after taking control of the Afghan capital Kabul on 15 August 2021, and took power from the former Afghan Government headed by former President Ashraf Ghani, who left the country before Taliba’s  fighters entered the capital.
