Muqtada al-Sadr warns against US forces’ presence in Iraq

SANAA, Dec.31 (YPA) – The leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, stressed that “the headquarters of the US military bases must be vacated and be handed over to the Iraqi army exclusively.”

Al-Ahed News quoted Al-Sadr, in a statement regarding the US military presence in Iraq, as saying: “The tasks and numbers of Americans on Iraqi soil must be determined, and the Iraqi airspace must be respected and used only after the approval of the Iraqi government.

He stressed that “the Iraqi government should exclusively undertake logistical and security support, and no external party has the right to interfere with this.”

According to the statement, “Any military and security presence inside the American embassy should be prohibited, and the official Iraqi forces will be pledged to do so.”
