Khashoggi’s fiancée welcomes France’s arrest of one of those accused of killing him

SANAA, Dec. 08 (YPA) – Hatice Cengiz, the fiancée of late Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, welcomed on Tuesday France’s arrest of one of the suspects in his horrific murder.

She wrote on Twitter: “France must try him for his crime or hand him over to a country that is capable and willing to investigate and prosecute him and whoever ordered the killing of Jamal.”

Today, the French authorities arrested one of the suspects accused of killing Khashoggi, days after French President Emmanuel Macron held direct talks in Saudi Arabia with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).

On Tuesday evening, RTL radio reported that French security forces had arrested one of the suspects accused of killing Khashoggi.

The radio said that Khalid bin Ayed Al-Otaibi, 33, a former member of the Saudi Royal Guard, was arrested on Tuesday morning at Charles de Gaulle Airport while he was preparing to leave for Riyadh.

According to RTL information, Khaled Ayed Al-Otaibi is one of the alleged members of the commando that assassinated the Saudi journalist in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018.

The French radio indicated that Khaled bin Ayed Al-Otaibi is wanted by Interpol after an arrest warrant for an assassination charge issued by Turkey.

She added that he was placed under judicial detention by the Air Force and Border Police, who are seeking in particular to confirm his identity once and for all.

It indicated that the 33-year-old was carrying his real passport, and therefore traveled under his real name.

A judicial source said that Khaled Ayed Al-Otaibi was “subject to extradition procedures to Turkey,” adding that the Saudi would be presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Paris on Wednesday morning, who would inform him of the arrest warrant.
