SANAA, Oct. 03 (YPA) – The US has warned Khartoum last week that deviation and inaction on the country’s transition path would jeopardize Sudan’s bilateral relationship with the United States, including aid, US State Department Spokesman Ned Price
Price said that during his visit to Sudan, US envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman met with Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, as well as civilian Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, among other political leaders.
Feltman urged Sudanese politicians to make “rapid progress” toward civilian rule, including “reaching consensus on when” a civilian figure would assume the presidency of the Sovereignty Council.
“Deviating from this path and failing to meet key standards will jeopardize Sudan’s bilateral relationship with the United States, including significant US assistance,” Price said.
US Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman visited Sudan from September 28 to October 1, a week after a coup attempt sparked tensions between civilian and military groups sharing power in the country.
