SANAA, Aug. 14 (YPA) – US troops have arrived in Kabul to help evacuation US embassy staff and other civilians from the Afghan capital, a US official said on Saturday.
This comes a day after Taliban fighters took control of the country’s second and third largest city.
Two Marines and third infantry battalions, consisting of some 3,000 troops, will arrive in Kabul by Sunday evening, the Pentagon said.
The Pentagon added a combat infantry team also move from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Kuwait to become a rapid response force for security in Kabul if necessary
Britain and other European countries are sending military personnel to Afghanistan amid the collapse of resistance from Afghan government forces and fears of a Taliban attack on Kabul within days.
