Iraqi forces thwart attempt by ISIS elements to blow up power transmission towers south of Nineveh

NIVEVEH, Jul. 05 (YPA) – Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (al-hashd al-sha’abi, or PMF) on Sunday foiled an attempt by ISIS elements to blow up power transmission towers south of Nineveh province.

“Through a security operation, the force found three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) intended to blow up an electrical power tower south of Nineveh province,” the PMF said in a statement.

The 25th Brigade forces intensified their security measures to protect the super compress towers to transport electricity from sabotage operations in south of Nineveh.

It is worth mentioning that recent attacks by terrorist elements have witnessed successive bombings of power transmission towers in a number of Iraqi provinces with the aim of damaging power transmission lines.
