Military situation between coalition factions explodes in Abyan

ABYAN, Jul. 01 (YPA) – A military situation between the Saudi-led coalition’s factions explode on Thursday in Abyan province, south of Yemen, sources said.

The sources affirmed that violent clashes erupted between Saudi-backed Islah militants and tribal gunmen backed by the so-called “security belt” of the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council (STC), in the middle of the streets of Lawdar district.

The sources indicated that the confrontations happened after the refusal of the security director of Lawdar district, Khadher Homsan, loyal to the STC, to hand over to his successor, Jaafar Abdullah Saleh Haidara, who was appointed by the Minister of Interior in Hadi government.

According to the sources, the Islah’s military campaign, including more than 30 military and security vehicles, led by Abu Mishaal Al-Kazmi, arrived on Wednesday from the coastal city of Shakra, to impose “Haidara” as director of the security of the district.

Meanwhile, The STC activists, on social media, considered that the military campaign by the Islah Party as a violation of the so-called “Riyadh Agreement.”
