America fails UN draft resolution on Palestinian-Israeli conflict

SANAA, May 20 (YPA) – The American mission to the United Nations commented on France’s initiative to obtain a UN resolution on the “Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” saying that it would not support “moves that it deems undermine the de-escalation efforts” between the two sides, according to the American mission.

Diplomats said France had distributed a draft of the text of the resolution to members of the Security Council.

The draft text calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, and condemns “the indiscriminate firing of rockets into civilian areas” without blaming anyone.

The draft urges the protection of civilians and the revival of the peace process between the occupation entity and the Palestinians to reach a two-state solution.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said he hoped that the 15 members of the UN Security Council could vote on the draft resolution as soon as possible.

It takes nine votes, and none of the permanent members, which are Russia, China, France, the United States and Britain, will not object.
