Tehran unveils new long-range air defense system

SANAA, April 18 (YPA) – Iran’s  army on Sunday unveiled a new Long-Range Air Defense System.

“Zolfaqar” and “Shadhid Majid” are the two advanced defense systems that were showcased in today’s parade.

“Zolfaqar” low-altitude air defense system is equipped with mechanized multi-launcher system while ‘Shahid Majid’ defense system consists of electro-optical fire control system and dual-launcher mounted on domestically-made Aras vehicle.

The military said the new system was capable of intercepting and destroying aircraft, ballistic missiles and Cruises.

The army also reviewed dozens of drones, reconnaissance and attacks, and cyberwarfare systems during a military parade in Tehran, the capital, on the occasion of The Iranian National  Army Day.

For his part, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that the country’s military institutions, including the army and revolutionary guards, are now more literal than ever, and know their responsibility accurately.

Rouhani noted that when the Iranian people decided 43 years ago to get rid of dictatorship and the monarchy.

“The military made its final choice and stood by the people, which is the difference between the Iranian army and other armies in the region,”he said.
