SANAA, March 30 (YPA) – Islamic State on Monday formally claimed the responsibility for the attack on the northern Mozambique gas town of Palma, the Site reported on Monday.
Dozens were killed, thousands displaced and some remain missing, after IS-linked militants launched an attack on the city this week.
A Mozambican defence ministry official earlier confirmed that the northern town of Palma had been attacked by gunmen as residents tried to escape to safety after communications were cut off.
The militants are already in control of the coastal town of Masimboa da Praia, which they captured last August, and have taken control of nearby villages and beheaded dozens, causing more than 670,000 to flee and creating a humanitarian crisis in the north of the country.
