NEW YORK, July 17 (YPA) – Iran announced on Wednesday its rejection of the US allegations and accusations against Tehran regarding the Red Sea and Yemen.
In a letter Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Iravani, sent to the President of the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General regarding Tehran’s commitments to all its international obligations and relevant Security Council resolutions, and to support the comprehensive Yemeni-led peaceful political process.
“It is deeply regrettable that the United States is exploiting the Security Council platform to divert attention from its destabilizing actions, including military intervention in Yemen and support for Israeli aggression against Yemen and the entire Middle East region.” Iravani said in his letter.
He strongly rejected the unjustified allegations made against Iran by the US representative at the Security Council sessions, held under the headings of “The situation in the Middle East” and “Maintenance of international peace and security.”
Iravani continued: “For nearly a decade, the Yemeni people have suffered the consequences of a devastating war and an illegal blockade imposed by a US-backed coalition, a situation that has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. These violations of international humanitarian law have continued with complete impunity.”
“The Security Council should not allow the United States’ misleading propaganda to obscure the horrific and ongoing crimes committed by the Israeli regime in Gaza and the region, as well as the root causes of the current situation in the Red Sea,” he added.
Iran’s ambassador clarified that achieving sustainable peace in the region required addressing the root causes of instability, foremost among which are the illegal occupation, ongoing aggression, and systematic violations of international law and Security Council resolutions by the Israeli occupation.
