SANAA, March 21 (YPA) – Foreign Minister, Hisham Sharaf, said that Sanaa has exercised the highest levels of self-control for facilitate reaching a comprehensive peace that preserves Yemen’s unity and its sovereignty.
This came during his meeting on Sunday with Natalia Kanem, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Natalia Kanem, who currently visits Yemen.
Sharaf called for the UN to intensify its efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, and to activate the humanitarian and diplomatic role that aims to bring peace.
The Minister affirmed that the Salvation Government in Sanaa has tried to deal with the situation left by the Saudi-led coalition’s war on Yemen through the available resources.
He expressed hope that Kanem would brief, during her visit, on the deteriorating humanitarian situation, that women and children are experiencing in Yemen, especially in the nutritional and health aspects, as a result of the aggression and the siege.
Additionally, the UNFPA’s work in Yemen during the past 20 years and through three development plans, was targeted and destroyed by the coalition in six years of aggressive military operations and indiscriminate bombing on most projects and infrastructure in Yemen.
Meanwhile, the UNFPA’s official expressed hope to see peace in Yemen, explaining that the fund would study the humanitarian situation in Yemen and the aspects that require support and assistance that contribute to alleviating the suffering of a Yemeni citizen.
