SANAA, March 9 (YPA) – The death toll from the emerging corona virus in the Latin America and Caribbean region has exceeded 700,000 since the Coronavirus began to spread worldwide in December 2019.
The number of officially registered deaths in the 34 countries of the region reached a total of 700,022 deaths (out of 22,140,444 recorded injuries).
Latin America is the second most affected region in the world by the pandemic, behind Europe (876,511 deaths) and ahead of the United States and Canada (547,986 deaths) and Asia (292,925 deaths).
After the epidemic curve declined slightly during the fall, the number of injuries and deaths caused by Covid-19 in Latin America increased steadily in December.
Since mid-February, the daily death rate from the virus in this region has decreased again to below the threshold of 3,000 deaths.
