EU: Gulf States threatens peace efforts in Africa

SANAA, May 27 (YPA) – The European Union’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, Alexander Rodriguez said that tension between the Gulf States is posing threat to the peace efforts in the Horn of Africa and more broadly on other countries in East Africa.

The impact of the Gulf crisis in East Africa is “the biggest strategic issue because it could easily undermine all efforts to resolve the crises in Central Africa.”, Rodriguez added

“We do not really need to undermine these efforts,” he said in a news conference in the Ugandan city of Entebbe in which 11 representatives of the European Union took part in the region.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off ties with Qatar a year ago and accused them of supporting Takfiri groups and of being close to Iran.
