TEHRAN, Feb. 07 (YPA) – Iran welcomed the announcement of the new US President, Joe Biden, stopping his country’s support for the Saudi-led Arab coalition operations in Yemen,
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said, in a statement issued Saturday, that the Biden administration’s announcement to stop supporting the Yemen war could be “a step in the direction of correcting previous mistakes, if not an American political maneuver.”
The ministry added that stopping the coalition’s support in the war on Yemen “will not suffice to solve the Yemeni crisis and it should be completed by ending the air, sea and land blockade and stopping the military raids of the aggressor countries led by Saudi Arabia.”
On Thursday, Biden announced that the United States would cease its support for the Saudi-led Arab coalition operations in Yemen, but he pledged to continue helping the kingdom defend its territory.
He also confirmed that his country would intensify its efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement for the Yemeni crisis.
Against the background of these developments, media reports stated that Washington froze two arms sales deals worth about $ 760 million to Saudi Arabia.
In the same context, the US Department of State announced on Friday that it had formally informed Congress of the intention of the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to remove the name of “Ansarullah” from the list of terrorism.
