Hamdok: Renaissance Dam threatens the safety of 20 million Sudanese citizens

SANAA, Feb. 7 (YPA) – Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok confirmed that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam threatens the safety of 20 million Sudanese citizens, noting that “their lives are dependent on the Blue Nile.”

The issue of the Renaissance Dam must be resolved in accordance with international law, and that his country agreed to move forward to resolve the Ethiopian dam among African solutions, Hamdok said, citing by the Sudan News Agency (SNA).

Hamdok’s speech, via video conference, was made at the 34th regular session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.

The Sudanese Prime Minister stressed that the solution of the Renaissance Dam must be done within the framework of international law, especially since the dam is located a stone’s throw from the Sudanese border and the threat it poses to the security and safety of more than 20 million Sudanese on the banks of the Blue Nile, among other monuments.

He underscored what was stated in the Commission’s report on the process of institutional reform for the African Union, appreciating the efforts made by all the African Union’s policy-making bodies to achieve Agenda of 2063, and to enable the African Union to become more capable and responsive to achieving its desired role for the interest of the African continent and its prosperity.
