SANAA, Nov. 11 (YPA) – US President Donald Trump on Tuesday appointed his loyalists to key positions in the Pentagon, after firing Defense Secretary Mark Esper.
Trump announced his dismissal of Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Twitter on Monday, in a sign that he might use his final months in office to settle scores within his administration.
In the wake of Esper’s departure, the Pentagon’s chief policy adviser resigned, and the US president promoted Anthony Tata, a retired Brigadier-General who had previously described Obama as a “terrorist leader,” according to Associated Press.
As Esper’s successor, Christopher Miller, who was director of the National Counterterrorism Center, took over the Department of Defense.
The Defense Department said Cash Patel, who was the chief counterterrorism adviser at the White House National Security Council, would be chief of staff.
Patel served as a senior aide to Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, a supporter of Trump who headed the House Intelligence Committee and is now the most senior member of the Republican minority in the House and while working with Nunes, Patel helped issue a warrant accusing the FBI and Justice Department of bias against Trump.
