SANAA, Oct. 28 (YPA) – A spokeswoman for Chinese mainland has expressed strong opposition to US arms sales to Taiwan.
According to Xinhua, Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks in response to a question about the US government’s approval of a plan to sell weapons worth 2.37 billion US dollars to Taiwan.
“America has sold arms to the Chinese Taiwan region repeatedly, sending wrong signals to the” Taiwan independence “forces and violating the one-China principle and the three joint communiques between China and the United States, especially the joint statement issued on August 17, 1982, Zhu said.
“We strongly oppose such actions,” she added, noting that the authority of the Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan relies stubbornly on military force to seek “Taiwan independence.”
“Such attempts will only undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and will bring disaster to the people in the region,” she said.
