Muslim scholars condemn killing of 2 Palestinian fishermen by Egyptian army

LONDON, Sep. 28 (YPA) – The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) condemned on Monday the killing of two Palestinian fishermen by the Egyptian army.

“The union strongly condemns the killing of the two brother fishermen, Hassan and Mahmoud Al-Zaazou, and the wounding of their third brother, Yasser Al-Zaazou, in the Gaza sea at the hands of the Egyptian army,” the union’s secretary-general, Ali Al-Qaradaghi, said in a statement.

Al-Qaradaghi explained that the two killed fishermen and their wounded brother “were looking for a source of livelihood to support their family, which included elderly parents, wives and children.”

He called on the concerned Egyptian authorities to expedite the investigation into the incident, ensure that it will not be repeated, and to punish the killers, appealing to the free world to lift the unjust blockade on Palestine.

On Saturday, Cairo handed over to the authorities in Gaza the bodies of two brother fishermen, whom the Fishermen Syndicate in the Strip said, “The Egyptian army shot them.”
