Lavrov: Some countries exploit the Corona virus crisis to achieve their geopolitical ambitions

SANAA, Aug. 12 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that some countries are seeking to exploit the Corona virus crisis to achieve their geopolitical ambitions, calling for unity of efforts to meet common challenges.

Lavrov said in a statement to the Russian newspaper ” Argumenty i Fakt “, that these countries continue to pursue policies of clamping down on “undesirable” countries through sanctions.

“Instead of uniting capacity to fight the Corona virus, we are seeing attempts to find those responsible for the spread of the infection,” he said.

The Minister stressed that the epidemic had shown that most of the risks in the modern world threatened everyone, as the crisis affected all aspects of international political, economic and social life.

“Once again, we call for joint action against the general plight and to seize the opportunity to establish broad international cooperation in the face of the common challenges and risks facing humanity.”

He stressed that the issue of terrorists’ exploitation of the Corona crisis should not be manipulated, stressing Moscow’s refusal to seek to exert pressure on certain states or international organizations.

The Minister recalled that in 2016 Russia had submitted a proposal on the drafting of an international convention to combat acts of chemical and biological terrorism.
