6.6 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia

SANAA, July 7 (YPA) – An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Java island on Monday evening.
The US Geological Survey confirmed that the strong earthquake struck at a depth of more than 500 km (300 miles), adding that “there is a slight possibility of injuries and damages.”
Indonesia is one of the most active areas of earthquake on Earth, and forms part of the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire.
The most active ground layers are located in this region of the world, some of which move at a speed of 7 cm annually.
In 2018, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake and a subsequent tsunami on Sulawesi island left more than 4,300 people dead or missing.
