Prisoner killed, 4 others injured after attempted mass escape in Sudan

SANAA, June 28 (YPA) – Sudan Police announced on Sunday the death of a prisoner and the injury of four others in the rebellion events in Port Sudan National Prison, east of the country.

The Sudanese police said, in a statement, that a large number of prison inmates gathered at exactly nine o’clock on Saturday morning and started demanding their release without legal justification.

The statement added that the prison administration forces addressed the inmates and warned them of the seriousness of these actions, and that it is not the best and legal way in the event of demands.

The police continued: “Riots increased and groups began to break the inner wall and remove the gates trying to mass escape,” adding that the prison administration took the legal procedures stipulated in the Prisons Law and the treatment of inmates according to the controls, and as a result, 4 inmates sustained varying injuries who were treated and in a stable condition, While a guest died of his wound.

The police explained that the measures taken to confront riots, insurrections and attempts to mass escape are subject to detailed legal standards and controls that are literally adhered to.

The police demanded the inmates and their families to resort to the legal course of any demands they deemed worthy, especially since inmates in prisons are subject to the implementation of judicial rulings.
