Armed clashes leave several dead in Abyan
ABYAN, May 26 (YPA) – Several members loyal to al-Islah party were killed and others injured on Tuesday in armed clashes in the districts of Shoqra city and Ja’ar, Abyan province, southern Yemen, local sources told Yemen Press Agency.
According to the sources, infighting broke out between the factions of the al-Islah armed militias in city of Shaqra, resulting in the death of several members and injuring many others..
The sources also pointed out that clashes renewed between the armed al-Islah militants and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia, early Tuesday, due to a limited attack by al-Islah militants on the STC’s positions near al-Tarya area in the city of Ja’ar.
On Monday, the city of Zinjibar, the center of Abyan province, has witnessed an exchange of artillery shelling between al-Islah militants and the STC militias
Abyan province has been the scene of fierce clashes between the two sides for nearly two weeks, with a limited progress made by the al-Islah party militants, but they have suffered heavy losses in equipment and lives.
