Fierce battles in Abyan, UAE air forces intervene

ABYAN, May 17 (YPA) -The UAE occupation warplanes launched an airstrike targeting the Aleurqub camp belonging to coalition-backed forces in Abyan as fierce fighting intensified with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council militia, southern media reported.

Media sources said that an Emirati warplane targeted the Area of Aleurqub, which is under the control of Hadi forces.

Field sources confirmed the infighting between the Islah militants  and the STC militia northeast of the city of Zanzibar, the center of Abyan province

According to the sources, artillery shelling between sharia forces and NTC forces has resumed over the past few hours between the areas of Al-Taryia and Sheikh Salem areas in eastern Abyan province.

The sources said that the legitimate forces, advanced from the area of “al-Taryia” northeast of The city of Zinjibar towards the town of “Sheikh Salem” and exchanged shelling with cannons with Hadi forces,

Several military pickups and armored vehicles were destroyed and burned during the clashes, in addition to leaving four people killed and eight others wounded of the STC militias.

According to the sources, infighting has been resumed and neither side has so far succeeded in making significant progress  on the ground.

The sources indicated that the UAE-backed STC militias launched an offensive  in a bid to retake their positions in the Area of al-Taryia, and to advance to the base  where Hadi forces are stationed in “Qarn al-Kalasi”, but the Hadi forces responded to the attack, leaving casualties of both sides.
