Southern leader survives assassination attempt in Aden

ADEN, May 8 (YPA) – The so-called southern resistance commander, Abdul Nasser al-Bawa, named “Abu Hammam” al-Yafei survived an assassination attempt in the southern port city of Aden on Thursday, local sources said.

According to the local sources, unidentified gunmen fired a barrage of bullets at the “Abu Hammam” convoy in Inma market of al-Buriqa district.

The attack left one of “Abu Hammam’s companions wounded, one of the sources said.

The sources added that the motives of the attack are still not clear, and whether Abu Hammam was injured in the attack or not while the attackers fled the scene.

In early August, Abdel Nasser al-Bawa, named “Abu Hammam” al-Yafei, had survived an assassination attempt by an improvised explosive device planted on the public line in the Bir Ahmed area near his home.

Observers accused Saudi forces of being behind the attack against Abu Hammam, as they were prevented from entering Aden airport in February.

This comes at a time when the city of Aden has been witnessing a public anger against the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council militias, which controls the city, coinciding with popular demonstrations and daily protests by citizens in the streets due to continued power outages and poor services.
