Russia calls on “Israel” to take urgent action to stop famine in Gaza

MOSCOW, Aug. 27 (YPA) – The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that famine in the Gaza Strip has reached a “record level,” calling on Israel to take immediate action to prevent the situation from worsening and ensure access for humanitarian aid.

This came in a statement issued by the ministry Tuesday, indicating that the famine could extend to the cities of Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah by the end of September.

The ministry also confirmed that the deteriorating humanitarian situation threatens the lives of 132,000 children under the age of five, 41,000 of whom suffer from severe malnutrition.

The statement said, “the Russian side called on the Israeli authorities to take urgent measures to prevent the situation from worsening, establish a ceasefire, and ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid and the delivery of necessary assistance, including food, to all those in need.”

In a related development, the Russian Foreign Ministry revealed a new initiative within the UN Security Council, through which member states seek to agree on a draft resolution aimed at addressing the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

Moscow added that it “awaits the adoption of such a document this time.”
