UN Secretary-General discusses with Iranian FM ways to cease fire in Yemen
SANAA, April 13 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, discussed with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, during the second phone call within the past 24 hours, the ways of the ceasefire in Yemen.
For his part, the Iranian foreign minister affirmed his country’s support for the efforts of the Secretary-General to stop the fighting in Yemen, stressing that “a military solution to the crisis is not possible,” considering that establishing a sustainable ceasefire is a prelude to start the political process to resolve and settle the crisis.
During the call, Zarif gave an overview of Iran’s diplomatic efforts to solve the political crisis in Afghanistan and advance the peace process there.
It is noteworthy that Sanaa handed the United Nations its vision to build peace in Yemen, and stipulates in the most important one the signing of the Yemeni and Saudi parties on a set of principles to achieve peace, which are being negotiated, provided that the negotiation process is preceded by a comprehensive cessation of the US-backed Saudi-led aggression against Yemen and the lifting of the blockade, while Riyadh is trying to circumvent it by going Towards a cease-fire that has not been achieved on the ground, as Saudi aircraft launched about 100 air strikes since the announcement of the unilateral ceasefire, and their mercenaries carried out more than 11 military creeps in various Yemeni governorates.
