FM asks UNHCR to protect Yemenis in South Korea
SANAA, Nov. 24 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Sunday met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)’s Representative in Sanaa Martin Manteaw.
During the meeting, Sharaf called on UNHCR to assume its responsibility to investigate the situation of a number of Yemeni citizens in South Korea, provide protection for them and ensure that they are not exposed to discrimination in accordance with the Refugee Convention of 1951 and its Protocol of 1967.
For his part, Manteiro said that the UNHCR would take the necessary measures to find out the reality of the situation of the Yemeni citizens and ensure that they are provided with the necessary protection.
The meeting reviewed activities of the UNHCR office, especially with regard to providing the necessary assistance to the internally displaced people.
